There’s more to the Port of Charleston than just cargo, ships, trucks, and trains. In fact, the Port has taken on one of the state’s largest environmental efforts to date – and was one of the first in the nation to consider “people” impacts. Among its efforts, the Port is restoring and adding 22 acres of tidal marshes, reducing port-related air emissions and funding two air monitoring stations, partnering with the Lowcountry Open Land Trust, Charleston Waterkeeper, Center for Birds of Prey, and partnering with the Department of Energy to look for energy savings at the Wando Welch Terminal, the largest SCPA terminal.
